Valentine: Good or Bad Choice Red Sox?
Seeing how right now the Red Sox are last in the AL East doesn't give anyone reasurance why Bobby Valentine is in the position he was given this year. He has already shown me and many others that he might just be another Francona. He waits till last minute to pull the pitchers, when clearly they should be done for the night. When a pitcher has reacher over 114 pitches, you should consider pulling him and getting another relief pitcher warmed up. The Red Sox have won 11 games and lost 15. We're 7 games behind 1st place, and even though the Red Sox are appearing to show up now, we never know what the end result is going to be come September when playoffs begin.
More recently, Valentine had moved Sweeney down the line up and replaced him with Punto. Who by the way had a .148 batting average, and where Sweeney went into yesterdays game with a .388 average. Where is any logic behind that? We're moving a guy who can actually hit a ball out of a good spot on the line up, and switching him with somebody who has been 0-4 in multiple games.
My guess is that we won't see Valentine next year as the Red Sox manager. He was made a puppet for this years season until the Red Sox could find someone to run the team for a much longer term than Valentine.
On top of the coaching not going too well, we've already had multiple injuries that seem to be piling up for the Sox. Jacoby Ellsbury has been out with an injured shoulder, and Youk has been out with a stiff back. Those 2 guys are a huge part of the team, they being the team together and the fans adore them. Some of the catches that Ellsbury has made would not be made by many other players and Youk has a bat that many would kill for.
When the players that are out with injuries come back, and Valentine learns how to manage the Red Sox (especially with their pitching) I think the Red Sox will show us just how amazing thye really are. They already have the most put together team, I mean look at the guys. I don't see anyone else having as close a bond as they do and they're in sync with one another. Now it's just a matter of getting the logistics right and in order.
Who knows if we'll see Valentine in 2013?
